What platforms are supported by VideoGrace system

Currently, both the server and client parts of the system can work on Microsoft Windows operating systems (XP, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, 10, Server 2003, Server 2008, Server 2012), as well as on Linux OS. In the near future, we will introduce a client application for Mac OS X, Android and iOS.

What you need to participate in videoconferences

Personal computer or laptop equipped with a webcam with a microphone, as well as a speaker system or headphones. Connection to the network with a bandwidth of at least 320 kbps.

What is VideoGrace Server

VideoGrace Server is software installed on a server in an enterprise network or in the cloud, designed for video conferencing over IP networks using VideoGrace client applications.

What is VideoGrace Cloud

VideoGrace Cloud is a cloud service that provides video conferencing over the Internet, designed for companies or individuals who are unable or unwilling to maintain their own video conferencing server. The uniqueness of the service lies in the fact that, unlike the widespread systems, VideoGrace Cloud is a personal server for each specific company or group of people, which provides such advantages as: stability of work, absence of overloads, security and privacy.

What are the advantages of VideoGrace over Skype?

Traffic passing through the Skype network can get to third parties and be listened to. VideoGrace, thanks to the personal server standing in the enterprise security loop or private cloud, closes the traffic inside this loop, making it impossible to intercept and listen. In addition, Skype works on the p2p principle (each for everyone) and, as a result, requires wide full-duplex channels for all participants, which actually limits the number of participants in Skype conferences to eight. VideoGrace works according to the star scheme, in which the server is engaged in traffic multiplexing, which allows to reduce the requirements for communication channels of participants and it is convenient to use unsymmetrical channels with narrow outgoing bandwidth, such as ADSL. This allows you to achieve a significantly larger number of participants on the same channels and equipment. In addition, VideoGrace (Server or Cloud), in contrast to the widely used Skype, is a private system that serves only one company or group of people, which makes it possible to achieve stability and quality inaccessible to Skype.

What are the advantages of VideoGrace over traditional VC hardware systems such as Polycom, Cisco, Sony, etc ...

There are several of them. Firstly - the price, the VideoGrace system is significantly cheaper at a comparable quality level, moreover, VideoGrace is initially focused on the use of video conferencing from its workplace, and not from specially equipped meeting rooms with expensive equipment. Classic systems, without purchasing expensive MCU servers, are not capable of providing more than three simultaneous participants, VideoGrace out of the box provides 30+ participants in one conference.

How to connect to the VideoGrace meeting room

VideoGrace Studio client application supports PTZ cameras and hotkeys for all actions. By connecting a PC via HDMI to a widescreen TV and installing an IR receiver, a complete solution is created for meeting rooms controlled by a remote control. You can find out more about the solution by writing to e-mail: contact@videograce.com

How to purchase a license for VideoGrace Server or pay for a subscription to VideoGrace Cloud

Payment is possible through PayPal or by direct transfer of money to our current account.

Technical issues

What are the network bandwidth requirements?

The required network bandwidth depends on the number of simultaneous participants in the conference and the quality of the transmitted video channels. The minimum requirements are 64 kbps (8 kb/s) per video channel and 16 kbps (2 kb/s) for audio. In the case of 10 participants, a minimum bandwidth network is required. participants: 144 kbps (18 kbyte/s) outgoing stream, 1440 kbps (180 kbyte/\ s) incoming. The server will require a network with a bandwidth of 1440 kbps (180 kb/s) of the incoming channel and 14 mbps (1.8 mbyte/s) of the outgoing channel.

What are the hardware requirements for the server and client devices?

Since the server is not engaged in transcoding, there are no special requirements for it; any modern server will do. The power of client devices depends on the number of participants and the quality of the video. Recommended features are here

What is the quality of video and sound

Video quality depends on the cameras used, network bandwidth and client device capacity. By default, a video of 640x480 (VGA) 25 frames per second is transmitted from each participant. The maximum resolution is 3840x2160 (UltraHD / 4K) with such a camera. Video quality and frame rate is also determined by the network bandwidth. Google’s VP8 video codec is used to provide the HD720, 25 frames per second already at 720 kbps. The sound is captured at a sampling frequency of 48 kHz, which allows for a range of 0 Hz to 22 kHz, echo and noise reduction from Google is used, and the Opus audio codec is effectively working at a bandwidth of 10 kbps. It is possible to independently change the parameters affecting the quality.

What cameras are recommended for high-quality video conferencing

Any modern USB camera will do; we recommend the following models:
For individual jobs:
Logitech C270 (HD720p)
For meeting rooms:
Logitech BCC950 (FullHD 1080p, optical zoom, motorized turn / tilt with the remote control)

What to do if no rights to install programs

You can download and run a portable version that does not require installation.

How to connect an IP camera

You need to use the free SplitCam program, as a result, another camera will appear in the system, which VideoGrace will see.

Is it possible to transmit an image of the desktop?

The application has a built-in desktop capture tool with the ability to select the screen of the monitor to be captured (if there are multiple monitors in the system). The output of the transmitted desktop image is made in a separate window / on a separate monitor.

Is it possible to use multiple monitors?

VideoGrace Studio в полноэкранном режиме может автоматически раскладывать видеоканалы на все имеющиеся в системе мониторы. Также возможно назначить вывод изображений захваченных рабочих столов на отдельный монитор.

How to update the system

The server part in the server control panel notifies the administrator about the release of the new version. The administrator manually updates the server part, client applications are updated automatically from the server.

What network ports are needed for work

One TCP (http (s)) port is used for exchanging control information and several (from one by default) UDP (RTP / RTCP) ports. By default, TCP and UDP ports have the same number, so if the server is behind NAT, it is enough to forward one port (by default 8778) to both TCP and UDP protocols.

Why use UDP

UDP traffic, unlike TCP, is delivered with a constant minimum delay. The loss of TCP traffic for losses can reach several seconds, which makes interactive communication impossible.

What affects the quality of communication

The quality of video and sound depends on the used capture devices (cameras and microphones), PC power, stability and network bandwidth. It is advisable to turn off resource-intensive and network-intensive software during video sessions, if possible switch from Wi-Fi to a wired connection. External USB cameras must be connected directly to the PC port, bypassing the USB hubs.
